Robbie Lowther charged with street murder bid in Tayport

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was found with serious abdominal injuries in a Fife street.

Robbie Lowther, 23, from Tayport, was also charged with assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

He made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.

The 22-year-old woman was attacked on Craig Road, Tayport, at about 01:00 on Friday.

She had been returning home from a night out at the Tayport Arms.

She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she is in a stable condition.

Det Sgt Alec Raeside, of Police Scotland, said: "This was an upsetting, but thankfully rare, attack on a young woman who was returning home after a night out.

"We would like to assure the local community that this was a one-off incident. As reassurance, we have stepped up patrols in the local area."
