A man suffers head injuries during attack in Edinburgh's Holyrood Road

Police have launched an investigation after a man suffered head injuries during an attack in an Edinburgh street.

The 36-year-old man was assaulted on Holyrood Road at about 16:40 on Monday and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with head injuries.

He was hit in the face outside Sugarhouse Close causing him to fall to the ground.

The victim was later released from hospital.

Police are urging for witnesses to contact them.

The attacker was male, white, in his 20s, 5ft 8ins tall, of slight build with short, dark cropped hair.

After the attack he made off in a white Transit-type van.
