Police are urging dog owners to keep their pets under control after a sheep had to be put down after suffering serious facial injuries.

The dog attack on the ewe happened overnight between Monday and Tuesday at West Balgothrie Farm in Leslie.

Sgt Kenny Greig of Police Scotland said: "This was a particularly vicious attack, which caused the animal considerable pain and distress."

He added that the police take dog attacks very seriously.

He said: "We are thankful there are many responsible dog owners in our area, but we would like to remind everyone of the importance of making sure they are in full control of their pet at all times.

"Offences relating to dogs are taken very seriously by Police Scotland and I would warn dog owners to adhere to our advice as action will be taken should any offences be reported."
