Police are searching for the driver of a Mercedes which had a fake number plate following a hit-and-run crash in West Lothian.

The car hit a parked Ford Focus at about 09:00 on Wednesday on Thymebank in Livingston.

The Mercedes driver failed to stop and then sped from the scene.

The impact caused both vehicles to bounce into the air with the Ford Focus landing in bushes on the roadside verge.

It is also missing a licence plate with the registration E18 MDR found at the scene which appears to be fake, police said.

The driver is a white man in his late 20s with short black hair and of slim build.

PC James Addison, of Police Scotland, said: "The parked Ford Focus sustained considerable damage and I believe the suspect vehicle would be as badly damaged, specifically to its front nearside area.

"We are looking to speak to anyone who saw this collision and who may have information that can assist with our inquiries."
