Police name man killed in Livingston motorway crash

A man who died when his car struck a motorway barrier has been named by police.

He was Stephen Stewart, 34, who lived in Callander.

The Mitsubishi L200 he was driving came off the M8 westbound carriageway near Livingston at about 01:15 on Saturday.

Mr Stewart was seriously injured and died a short time later. The road was closed for five hours to allow for recovery and investigation work.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Stewart's family said: "Steve was a kind, caring and loving man with a huge heart and was always there for his friends and family when they needed him.

"He will be sorely missed and we ask for peace to grieve at this very difficult time."

Police officers have appealed for witnesses to the crash - or anyone with information about it - to contact them.
