Woman, 81, forced to take cash from ATM in Edinburgh

An 81-year-old woman was robbed of a three-figure sum of money after a thief forced her to withdraw money from a cash machine.

The pensioner was targeted on Edinburgh's Picardy Place at about 16:45 on Thursday.

After withdrawing money from a cash machine, she was approached by a woman who took her back to the ATM and demanded that she withdraw more money.

The suspect was about 30, 5ft 2in tall, of stocky build with olive skin.

She was wearing a green anorak, black trousers and had a white scarf over her head.

Det Con Alison Wyllie said: "This was a brazen attack in broad daylight at the start of rush hour.

"We're looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this, or perhaps noticed the suspect leading the victim to the ATM.

"It's also possible someone may remember a woman who matches the description of the suspect watching the victim before the robbery took place."
