A nine-year-old cyclist has been injured by a hit-and-run motorist on an Edinburgh road.

It happened at about 08:40 on Thursday in Hyvot Loan, at the junction with Hyvot Mill Drive.

The boy was hit by a dark-coloured hatchback-style car. The car may have been a black Ford and was last seen on Hyvot Mill Drive.

The boy sustained minor injuries but did not need medical treatment.

PC Ross Halliday said: "Thankfully, the boy only sustained minor injuries but the driver failed to stop at the scene and we are eager to trace him.

"We'd ask anyone who may have witnessed this collision, saw the car in the area or recognises its description to get in touch.

"Likewise, if the driver himself sees this appeal I'd urge him to come forward and contact us."
