Child sick after taking methadone

A man has been arrested after a three-year-old girl drank the heroin substitute methadone at a house in West Dunbartonshire.

It is understood the girl managed to open a child-proof bottle containing the drug at a house in the Bellsymre area of Dumbarton.

She was sick shortly afterwards and was taken by ambulance to Paisley's Royal Alexandria Hospital.

Police said a 33-year-old man had been arrested over the incident.

He is expected to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
