Cannabis plants found at Ayrshire farm

Cannabis plants worth more than £200,000 have been recovered from a farm in Ayrshire.

Members of the public alerted police to suspicious activity at Molmontend Farm in Newmilns, which officers searched on Thursday.

A total of 687 plants were found, which police said had a potential street value of £206,000.

The Strathclyde force said inquiries were continuing to identify the offenders.

Det Ch Insp Neil Robertson said: "Like many properties where cannabis is being cultivated, all the windows were blacked out with polythene and had visible condensation.

"There was also a strong pungent smell from the letterbox which indicated cannabis was being grown inside.

"If you suspect anything and want the police to check it out, please pass the information to your local police office."
