Man injured in 'cowardly' attack in Cumnock

A 37-year-old man has been treated in hospital for head injuries after being seriously assaulted by a group of men outside a shop in East Ayrshire.

The victim was attacked as he left the Spar shop in Glaisnock Street, Cumnock, at about 2120 BST on Sunday.

Police said they were looking for up to six young men aged between 16 to 20 years old.

Det Sgt William McDicken, of Strathclyde Police, described the attack as "cowardly and vicious".

"We are currently reviewing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquires in the area," he said.

"I believe that this group may regularly hang around the local area and someone will know who they are. I would also ask anyone who saw the incident to come forward and speak to us."
