A 47-year-old woman who was found dead in East Renfrewshire at the weekend was murdered, police have said.

Lynne Farquhar's body was discovered at her flat in Rockmount Avenue, Barrhead, at about 1730 BST on Sunday.

Following a post-mortem examination, police said she had been subjected to a "violent and sustained attack".

Officers are trying to establish Ms Farquhar's last movements and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Det Insp Scott McMillan, from Strathclyde Police, said Ms Farquhar was last seen at about 1000 BST on Sunday morning, and was spoken to on the phone at about 1200.

'Violent attack'

"What we need to establish are her movements between 1200 and 1730, when her body was discovered," he said.

"She was subjected to a violent and sustained attack which took place in her flat.

"It was an otherwise quiet Sunday bank holiday afternoon, so someone must have either heard a disturbance or seen people running from the flat around that time.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who was in Rockmount Avenue on Sunday afternoon."
