Police have named the teenager who was murdered on Thursday night near Pollok Park on the south side of Glasgow.

Lee Grant, 17, was found with serious injuries near the park's entrance on Pollokshaws Road at about 2350 BST.

He was taken to the Victoria Infirmary but died a short time later.

Police appealed to anyone who witnessed a group of people involved in a disturbance to contact them, but said there was nothing to indicate the murder was gang-related.

'Very sad'

The officer leading the investigation, Det Insp Pat Campbell, said: "Inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death of Lee Grant.

"Officers are currently carrying out extensive enquiries in the area and studying CCTV footage in an effort to gather further information.

"Meanwhile I would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Pollokshaws Road prior to 2350 hrs on Thursday and witnessed a group of people involved in a disturbance."

Rosemary Watson, manager at nearby Pollokshaws Burgh Halls, said the murder had shocked local people.

"The place was all closed off, traffic all redirected. The place is very quiet," she said.

"It's unnerving the fact that it's so near your doorstep. Everyone is talking about it and saying how awful it is and how it's on their doorstep.

"The place has been relatively quiet lately and for this to happen it's just been a shock this morning. It's very sad."
