Barmaid threatened with axe and machete in robbery bid

A barmaid was left "terrified" after a man used an axe and machete during a failed robbery bid at a Glasgow pub.

The suspect entered the Springcroft Pub, on Edinburgh Road in the Baillieston area, at 1050 GMT on Sunday and demanded the woman empty the till.

Strathclyde Police said the barmaid turned to customers for help and the would-be robber ran off empty-handed.

No-one was injured in the incident. Officers are now checking CCTV images in an effort to trace the suspect.

Det Con Dianne Wilson said: "This has been a terrifying ordeal for everyone involved.

"Thankfully, no-one was injured but it's imperative we trace this man.

"I would appeal to anyone, perhaps passing motorists, who were in the area at the time of the incident and may have seen the suspect either enter the bar or leave it.

"Please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."

The suspect is described as white and about 5ft 3in to 5ft 5in tall.

He was wearing a purple-coloured hooded jacket, dark-coloured gloves and a grey-coloured balaclava pulled over his head, covering most of his face.

Police officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area.
