Paramedic car hits and kills man on way to 999 call

A 70-year-old man has died after being hit by a paramedic vehicle that was responding to an emergency call.

Robert Cunningham was crossing Prestwick Road in Ayr when the accident happened at about 1655 GMT on Friday.

It is understood he was struck by a Ford Focus Paramedic Response Unit on the way to an emergency.

Strathclyde Police have appealed for witnesses and said a report into the incident would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
