Sex attack on woman walking home in Elderslie

A 30-year-old woman has been indecently assaulted as she walked home from a night out.

The attack happened in Elderslie in Johnstone after the woman got off a train in the village.

A man came up behind her, pushed her to the ground and indecently assaulted her as she walked along Barclay Drive, near the Main Road, at about 0030 GMT on Saturday.

Members of the public heard her screams and the man ran off.

He has been described as white, in his early to mid 20s, with a local accent.

He was smartly dressed and was carrying a backpack. Police said it is possible he was on the same train as the woman.

Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and checking CCTV images in an effort to trace the suspect.

Det Cons David Branch from Paisley CID said: "This young woman has been traumatised by this incident and it's imperative we trace the man responsible for this attack.

"It's possible that this man may have been on the same train as the woman and may have been seen by other passengers. I would urge anyone who may have information or who may know anything about the suspect to please get in touch."
