Car kills two women on pavement in Glasgow city centre
Two young women have been killed and a man has been injured after they were struck by a car in Glasgow city centre.
Police said it was thought the Range Rover driver mounted the kerb and hit the pedestrians on the pavement.
The women have been named as friends Mhairi Convy, 18, and Laura Stewart, 20 - both students in Glasgow.
They were struck, along with the 36-year-old man, in North Hanover Street, close to the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, at 1100 GMT.
Police said Ms Convy from Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, and Ms Stewart, from Cumbernauld, were students at Glasgow College of Commerce.
The male pedestrian and the 50-year-old male driver of the Range Rover are in a stable condition in hospital.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene and the two women were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they died.
Inspector Kenny Welsh, from Strathclyde Police, is leading the investigation into the incident.
He has asked for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information, to contact police.
