Search for woman missing while shopping in Biggar

Police say concerns are growing for a 68-year-old woman who went missing while shopping in Biggar on Saturday.

Sylvia Muir, from Symington, has not been seen since she went off on her own while her husband was packing their car at the Co-op at about 1130 GMT.

Strathclyde Police said an extensive search of the surrounding area has so far failed to trace Mrs Muir.

She is 5ft 6ins tall with short, brown hair and glasses. She was wearing a beige jacket, coloured scarf and a hat.

Officers said she had never gone missing before and is unable to walk for lengthy periods of time.

Family and police are becoming increasingly concerned for her safety.

Sgt Kirsty O'Hare said: "It is extremely out of character for Sylvia to go missing and her family are becoming increasingly anxious as time goes on.

"I would appeal to anyone who can shed any light on her current whereabouts, or anyone who may be aware of her movements since Saturday morning to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"We need to know that Sylvia is safe and well."
