A 45-year-old man has died after a house fire in the Dumbarton area.

Two Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service crews were called out to the blaze at a property in Boghead Avenue about 0130 GMT.

The man's body was found by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

A fire service spokesman said neighbours had made a "valiant" attempt to enter the ground floor flat but were prevented by severe heat and smoke.

Strathclyde Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death or the fire.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

It is the fourth fire death in the Strathclyde area since last Monday. Police said they would release further details later.
