Pedestrian, 61, 'seriously hurt' in Rutherglen crash

A 61-year-old man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

The pedestrian was crossing Mill Street, near to the junction with Main Street, when he was struck by a blue Peugeot at about 0650 GMT on Friday.

He was taken to Glasgow Victoria Infirmary and then transferred to the city's Southern General Hospital where he is being treated for a head injury.

His condition has been described as "serious but stable".

The 39-year-old male driver of the Peugeot 206 was uninjured but left badly shaken.

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
