A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of 19-year-old Reamonn Gormley.

The student was stabbed on Glasgow Road, Blantyre, on Tuesday evening while walking home with a friend from the Parkville pub, where they had been watching the Aberdeen v Celtic game.

Mr Gormley's friend managed to take him back to the Parkville to get help, but Mr Gormley died later in hospital.

Strathclyde Police said the arrested man had been detained in their custody.

A spokesman for the force said a report had been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a statement released by police, Mr Gormley's family described him as "a wonderful son and a loving and caring boy".

The statement read: "Reamonn's family wish to convey their gratitude for all the expressions of sympathy from the community."

Mr Gormley's parents and brother also thanked the Blantyre Walk and Rollers group for organising a commemorative march, which is to be held on Saturday.
