Man murdered in 'violent attack' in Airdrie

Police investigating a murder in North Lanarkshire on Friday said the victim was subjected to a "violent attack".

Officers found the injured man after being called to a flat in Laggan Road in Airdrie at about 2125 GMT.

He died later in Monklands General Hospital.

Detectives are trying to find out when the attack happened, and appealed to locals to contact them if they heard any disturbance during the day or in the evening.

A post-mortem examination is still to be carried out, but police are treating the death as murder.

Det Insp Duncan Hamilton said: "It's clear the man sustained a violent attack, but it's not clear when this attack took place.

"We are currently gathering information in the hope of establishing the time of the assault."
