Two charged over teenager's death in Blantyre

Two men have been charged with the murder of a teenager stabbed as he walked home from watching a football match in a bar.

Reamonn Gormley, 19, was attacked in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, last Tuesday. He died in hospital.

Daryn Maxwell, 22, from Hamilton, and 18-year-old Barry Smith, from Blantyre, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with the student's murder.

The pair also each face a charge of assault and robbery.

They made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody.

More than 1,000 people took part in a march in memory of Mr Gormley over the weekend. He had been studying psychology at Glasgow University.
