Pair hit by car while petting horse near Blantyre

A man and three-year-old girl have been seriously injured after a car struck them at the side of the road as they were petting a horse in a field.

The 60-year-old man and girl were with other family members when the incident happened on the B758 Blantrye Farm Road at about 1525 GMT on Sunday.

They were hit by a Vauxhall Meriva which had swerved to avoid another car.

Both are in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Police have appealed for witnesses.
