A man has gone on trial accused of murdering a teenager whose burned body was found in a field.

Robert Bayne is accused of killing 17-year-old Zoe Nelson in May last year at a wooded area in Cambusnethan, near Wishaw in North Lanarkshire.

The 21-year-old is also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by setting fire to her body.

He denies all charges. Mr Bayne's trial at the High Court in Edinburgh is expected to last six weeks.

Ms Nelson was seen leaving her Newmains home at 1700 BST on 22 May 2010. She was later seen on CCTV footage in a local store at about 1730 BST.

Her body was discovered by a passer-by the following afternoon.
