Father stabbed on son's birthday in Glasgow street

A 46-year-old man is in hospital in Glasgow after being stabbed in front of his son on his birthday

Strathclyde Police said the attack happened outside a house in Northgate Road, Barmulloch, at about 0135 GMT.

The force said the man was inside his house when he saw his 17-year-old son arguing with a group of men outside.

He went outside to urge his son back into the house but was stabbed and knocked unconscious. He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

'Violent attack'

Det Con Martin Conlan, who is leading the inquiry, has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "This had been a celebratory evening which turned into a nightmare for the victim's family and local community.

"The man suffered a violent attack and his family is devastated by what has happened.

"I would urge anyone who knows or has any information about this incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Any information could help us trace those responsible for this attack."

Police said it was unknown in which direction the attackers ran off.

They are described as being between 17 and 18 years of age. One of them was wearing dark clothing.
