Rutherglen petrol station staff tied up during robbery

Two petrol station workers were tied up during a robbery in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, police said.

A 29-year-old woman was opening the Somerfield station in Stonelaw Road at about 0545 GMT when she was threatened with a knife and forced into the back of the premises, where she was tied up.

Her 20-year-old colleague was also tied up when she arrived before the man made off on a bike with a five-figure sum.

Police said he was wearing a high-visibility jacket.

The Strathclyde force said the robber, described as white, in his 30s, about 5ft 8in and with a medium build, made off towards Highburgh Avenue.

The women were unharmed but police said they have been left traumatised by the incident.
