Crew member from Forth Guardsman falls overboard

A crew member has been airlifted to hospital after falling overboard from a landing craft off the Sound of Jura.

The man, from the Forth Guardsman, was anchoring the vessel when he fell and got trapped between the anchor cable and the craft at about 1930 GMT.

He was recovered by the vessel's rescue boat, transferred to a lifeboat and airlifted by the helicopter to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.

Clyde Coastguard was unable to confirm the extent of his injuries.

Coastguard watch manager Tarik Yassin said: "The crew member had been assisting with anchoring the vessel just south of the Sound of Jura when he fell overboard."

A rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, the Islay Lifeboat and the Port Charlotte Coastguard rescue team went to the scene.
