Police said the woman had been to The Garage nightclub in Sauchiehall Street on Thursday night and was dropped off by a taxi in Gibson Street at about 0310 GMT on Friday.

She was then raped by a man described as being black, in his early 20s, with short, dark afro-style hair.

Police are appealing for information from taxi drivers.

The victim was white, about 5ft 6in, slim, with long, straight, brown hair with a fringe.

She was wearing a black knee-length dress, black tights, black ankle boots and a black coat and was carrying a black and silver shoulder bag.

Det Sgt Steven Watson, of Strathclyde Police, said: "I am particularly keen to speak to any taxi drivers, either hackney or private hire, who picked up a girl matching the description of the victim around Sauchiehall Street after 0310 hours and dropped her off on Gibson Street close to Stravaigin Restaurant.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man matching the description of the suspect either in and around Sauchiehall Street or near to Gibson Street."

The suspect was about 5ft 8ins, of slim build, and was clean shaven.
