Ryan Bell killed during police 'car getaway' in Glasgow

A teenager was killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in crashed moments after being approached by police in Glasgow.

Officers tried to stop the Peugeot car at traffic lights in Yoker at 0200 GMT on Sunday on seeing its headlights off.

The vehicle then made off and struck a parked car before hitting a wall.

Ryan Bell, 15, died at the scene. Two girls, aged 14 and 15, and the 17-year-old male driver were injured. He is facing alleged road traffic offences.

Police said the Peugeot car crashed as it made off south along Duntreath Avenue.

The 17-year-old male driver was treated at the nearby Western Infirmary for minor injuries and later released.

Both girls were detained in hospital after suffering head injuries. They are said to be a stable condition.

Strathclyde Police said a full investigation, overseen by Lothian and Borders Police, would be carried out into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
