Oban lifeboat crew solves distress channel mystery

A Scottish lifeboat crew has pinpointed the source of mysterious transmissions on a distress channel after concerns they could hamper emergencies at sea.

The coastguard enlisted the help of Oban's RNLI crew because "troublesome transmissions" had been reported on VHF channel 16 since 18 March.

A crew member had a hunch the Luing ferry, Belnahua, may be to blame.

Specialist equipment later confirmed a faulty radio on the ferry had been causing the problem.
