Woman, 82, hurt in Alexandria street robbery

An elderly woman has suffered a serious eye injury after being attacked and robbed in a West Dunbartonshire street.

The 82-year-old woman was walking in Bridge Street, Alexandria, at about 1550 BST on Saturday when a young man approached her from behind.

He then pulled her handbag from her shoulder, causing her to fall and hit her face on the pavement.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where her condition was described as stable.

The bag was later found with a small sum of money missing from her purse.
