Probe after gun fired near Arkleston Primary School

An investigation is under way after a gun was fired at a flat close to a primary school in Renfrewshire.

The firearm was discharged at the door of the first-floor flat in Cocklesloan, Renfrew, near Arkleston Primary School, at about 0540 BST on Thursday.

No-one was injured but police believe the occupant was deliberately targeted by a man who was wearing a grey hooded top.

Officers have asked for anyone with information to contact them.

Det Insp Mark McGowan, of Strathclyde Police, said: "I'd like to reassure the residents of Renfrew that we strongly believe this incident was not a random attack and that the occupant of the house was the intended target.

"Nevertheless the consequences of his actions could have been very serious or even fatal.

"I'd like to speak to anyone who was perhaps going to work or walking their dog around 0530 hours this morning and may have seen the culprit acting suspiciously in the area."

Det Insp McGowan said it was unclear whether the suspect left the flat via the front or back entrance or whether he got into a car.
