Taxi driver seriously injured in Glasgow police crash

A taxi driver is said to be in a serious condition after his vehicle was hit by a police van responding to an emergency call.

The 65-year-old man was injured in the collision on Great Western Road, Glasgow at 1740 BST on Friday.

The Ford Transit police van was travelling east when the collision with the Fiat Doblo taxi happened at the junction of Dorchester Avenue.

Strathclyde Police appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The taxi driver was taken to the Western Infirmary where he is in a serious condition.

The passenger of the taxi and both police officers travelling in the van sustained minor injuries.

A police spokesman said the van had emergency lights and klaxon in operation at the time.

Another police force has been asked to provide an overview of the investigation being conducted by Strathclyde Police to ensure the full circumstances surrounding the crash are established, the spokesman added.
