Elderly woman robbed at home in Thornliebank

An elderly woman was threatened with a weapon during a robbery at her home in Thornliebank, police have said.

The 83-year-old was left "extremely frightened and distressed" after the incident in Main Street on Friday, around 1640 BST.

The man demanded cash and stole a number of her possessions after rummaging through her handbag.

Det Con Phil Kennedy, of Strathclyde Police, appealed for help in tracing the "despicable" robber.

He said: "Clearly, he has no conscience, preying upon an elderly woman within her own home.

"The lady was not injured in the incident but she is obviously very upset and frightened."

The suspect was described as white and about 30 to 40 years old, with a gaunt appearance and a local accent.
