Remand prisoner dies in Glasgow's Barlinnie jail

A 46-year-old man has died while on remand in Glasgow's Barlinnie jail.

Anthony John McEwan was remanded in custody on assault charges from Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said that the 46-year-old died on Sunday. His family have been informed.

In a statement, the SPS said that a fatal accident inquiry into Mr McEwan's death would be held in due course.
