Sex allegation teacher Christine Fair struck off

A school teacher has been struck off over claims she had sex with a pupil and bought drinks for him and a friend.

Christine Fair was suspended from Larkhall Academy over allegations she had sex with the pupil at her home in Glasgow's Crookston area in 2009.

It was also alleged she bought drinks for the pupil and a friend at an end of term prom in Falkirk.

The General Teaching Council found both charges proven and ordered her name to be removed from the teaching register.

The council's disciplinary sub committee decided that Ms Fair's name should also be referred to the ministers for possible inclusion on the list of those disqualified from working with children.

Probationer teacher

The committee stated it accepted that "the evidence of the reports of investigation were hearsay evidence" as the male pupil involved did not attend the hearing.

It said, however, that it "was able to consider the evidence as such in order for it to fulfil its duty under the Teaching (Scotland) Act".

Ms Fair did not attend the hearing.

South Lanarkshire Council said: "We can confirm that Christine Fair left the employment of the council in 2009. She was a probationer from 2008 until 2009.

"The matter was referred to the General Teaching Council for consideration."
