Man killed after tree hit car in Scottish storms named
A man killed after a tree crushed the car he was driving during gale-force storms in Scotland has been named.
Andrew Speirs, from East Kilbride, was driving his Ford Transit van along Mollanbowie Road, in Balloch, when it was hit at about 1500 BST on Monday.
Fire crews worked for several hours to cut the 36-year-old free, but he died at the scene.
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal and police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
Winds of up to 100mph caused travel disruption across Scotland's road, rail and ferry networks earlier in the week.
