A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of murdering a teenager in Greenock at the weekend.

Christopher Knox, 17, was taken to hospital with knife wounds after reports of a fight in Kylemore Lane in the town on Friday night. He died a short time later.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court accused of murder.

He entered no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

He is due to return to court for a further hearing later this month.

Strathclyde Police later said that another four teenage boys, aged 16, 17 and two aged 18, had been arrested in connection with the death of Mr Knox.

They are expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
