Kilwinning teenager in court after boy, 12, stabbed

A teenager has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a 12-year-old boy was stabbed and left in a critical condition.

Gareth Young, 16, of Kilwinning in Ayrshire, is accused of the attack after an incident in the town's Sundrum Place early on Sunday.

Young made no plea or declaration at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains in hospital.

His condition was described as critical but stable.
