Man in court over alleged taxi rank assault

A man has appeared in court accused of a serious assault on two women at a taxi rank.

Kevin Murray, 23, from Helensburgh, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court accused of two charges of assault to severe injury.

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly knocked to the ground after a disagreement with a group of men at the rank in West Clyde Street, Helensburgh.

It is alleged that her 22-year-old friend was also assaulted.

Another man from the group, Shaun Surgeoner, 18, is alleged to have taken the 25-year-old woman's handbag as she lay on the ground during the incident at about 0300 BST on 19 June.

He also appeared at the same court charged with theft.

Both men made no plea or declaration and were released on bail while the case was continued for further examination.
