A 13-year-old boy is in custody following the death of a woman in South Lanarkshire, Strathclyde Police have confirmed.

Police and ambulance services were called to a flat in Deveron Crescent, Hamilton, at about 2010 BST on Friday, where 34-year-old Dawn McKenzie was found seriously injured.

She was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where she died.

Her family later said they were "devastated and numb with grief".

In a statement released through Strathclyde Police, the family said: "Dawn was a loving wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

"She was nursery nurse, nanny and helped mothers and children throughout her working life."

A 13-year-old boy is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with the death.
