Woman 'traumatised' after robbery at home in Irvine

A 70-year-old woman has been left traumatised after a robbery at her home in Irvine in Ayrshire.

Police said a man entered her home in the Duntonknoll area through an open bedroom window at about 0600 BST on Monday.

He threatened her with violence and stole her bag.

The victim was uninjured but detectives said she had been very distressed by her experience. Officers have appealed for information.

Det Con Karen Smith said: "Firstly I would like to reassure the public that there are extra officers patrolling the area and I would urge anyone with any information or concerns to speak to them.

"This was a particularly frightening experience for the elderly female involved, who thankfully was not injured in the incident.

"Understandably, however, she has been left traumatised by this."

The suspect was described as white, stocky build, about 5ft 9in, cropped fair hair, fresh faced and wearing a white T-shirt and dark bottoms.
