Fire at Rutherglen's O'Leary's Bar 'suspicious'
A fire which caused "significant" damage to a pub in South Lanarkshire is being treated as "suspicious", police have said.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at O'Leary's Bar in Glasgow Road, Rutherglen, at about 0210 BST.
No-one was inside at the time, but the building was well alight by the time fire crews tackled the blaze.
Strathclyde Police said an investigation had been launched to establish the cause of the fire.
Det Insp Laura McLuckie said: "Fortunately, no-one was in the bar at the time, however, the building itself has suffered extensive damage.
"There appears to be no clear motive for this, therefore any information would be extremely helpful at this time.
"The property is well-known within the community and is within a residential area so I would ask anyone who lives locally and who perhaps may have seen or heard something suspicious to get in touch with us.
"The fire has caused significant damage to the building, resulting in the bar's closure."
