Images released over Coatbridge Sunnyside assault case

British Transport Police have released images of a man they want to trace over a station assault which resulted in a man being dragged by a train.

The victim was punched at Coatbridge Sunnyside station at about 23:45 on 13 August, shortly after the Edinburgh Waverley to Garscadden service arrived.

The 32-year-old man then fell between the train and the platform before being dragged along by the train.

Transport police want to trace a man who boarded the train in Edinburgh.

He boarded the 22:51 Edinburgh to Garscadden service at Waverley station and was last seen crossing the car park of Coatbridge Sunnyside station in the direction of Sunnyside Road, shortly after the assault.

Det Con Raymond Grimley, from British Transport Police, said: "I am appealing for anyone who was on the train or at the station and who may have information regarding the incident to contact me as a matter of urgency."

The injured man is being treated in hospital for back and leg injuries where his condition is described as serious but stable.
