Man in court over Nick Clegg blue paint protest

A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg with paint.

Stuart Rodger 22, from Inverkeithing, is accused of throwing an egg containing paint at Mr Clegg in the Maryhill area of Glasgow on Thursday.

He is also charged with assaulting three police officers on the same date by throwing an egg with paint at them.

He made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was released on bail.

Mr Rodger is due to appear again at a later date.

The incident happened as Mr Clegg arrived at Woodside Hall in the city for a meeting with Lib Dem Party activists.

The deputy prime minister's suit and face were splattered with paint.
