Man stabbed in Hamilton street attack

A man has been seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack in Lanarkshire.

The 58-year-old was walking to a friend's house in Hamilton when another man attacked him.

The assault took place at 16:30 on Saturday on Meikle Earnock Road. The victim suffered stab wounds to his head and body and a fractured shoulder.

He is being treated at Hairmyres hospital in East Kilbride, where his condition is described as stable. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Con Eddie Mather said: "This man was just heading to his friend's house nearby when, for absolutely no reason, he was viciously attacked.

"It was a tremendously frightening experience for him and for it to have happened in the afternoon is just shocking.

"The suspect for this is described as white, in his early 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with dark hair and wearing dark clothing."
