Man 'viciously' stabbed in Hamilton street

A man has been "viciously attacked" and stabbed in the street while heading to a friend's house in Hamilton.

The 58-year-old was attacked by a man who had walked past him in Meikle Earnock Road at 16:30 on Saturday.

He was taken to Hairmyers Hospital in East Kilbride and treated for stab wounds to his head and body and a fractured shoulder.

The victim is said to be in a stable condition. Police want to hear from anyone with information.

Det Con Eddie Mather, from Strathclyde Police, said: "This man was just heading to his friend's house nearby when, for absolutely no reason, he was viciously attacked.

"It was a tremendously frightening experience for him, and for it to have happened in the afternoon is just shocking."

He said the suspect was white, in his early 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, with dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.
