Fire crews tackle blaze at Blackwood sawdust building

An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire at a works building in South Lanarkshire.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said four appliances were called to tackle the blaze at the sawdust and wood shavings storage building in Blackwood at 03:00.

Crews had to overcome an initial shortage of water and problems posed by nearby gas cylinders and diesel fuel.

The fire was contained and prevented from spreading to up to 20 other trailers and several tractor units.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire service and Strathclyde Police.
