A 21-year-old man who had been arrested in connection with the murder of a 13-year-old Kilmarnock schoolboy has been freed pending further investigation.

Jon Wilson died in hospital following an attack in Queens Drive in the East Ayrshire town in the early hours of Sunday 4 September.

The 21-year-old man arrested at the weekend was the second person to be held over the death.

Jordan Cameron McCreadie, 16, was earlier charged with murder.

He made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on 5 September.

Mr McCreadie was remanded in custody and no date was fixed for his next appearance.

A Crown Office spokeswoman said the procurator fiscal had received a report concerning the 21-year-old man.

She said: "After full and careful consideration by the procurator fiscal, he was liberated pending further investigation and did not appear in court in relation to this matter."
