Part of a church hall in Lanark has been demolished after a fire caused major structural damage.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the hall belonging to St Mary's RC Church on the town's Ladyacre Road at 12:15.

A spokesman said they faced a dangerous situation, with a fast growing fire spreading into the roof space.

After the blaze was brought under control the decision was made to demolish an unsafe gable wall.

No-one was inside at the time and there were no reports of any injuries.
